The Safest Port

Safe and secure port
Thanks to the port's advanced traffic management system, comprising a chain of traffic control centers and radar stations, Rotterdam has one of the safest port approaches in the world, unencumbered by locks, bridges or tidal restrictions.

The Port of Rotterdam also pays close attention to security. Rotterdam is one of the forerunners in the implementation of the strict regulations of the IMO's International Ship and Port Facility Security code (ISPS-code). This code has come into force worldwide on July 1, 2004.

Container scan
Both at the Maasvlakte and the Eemhaven, Dutch Customs uses an advanced container scan that allows for the swift and effective inspection of containers. In three minutes' time, a container is fully checked. Efficient logistics surrounding these inspections are organized through a simple, web-based application. All the parties involved (shipping line, terminal, transport company, Customs) can follow the entire process on-line and see for themselves when they need to undertake any action. Containers become available again for further transport in no time at all.
