June 25, marks the 30th anniversary of the opening of our Delta/Sea-land terminal (now the DDN terminal); the world's first automated container terminal. We would like to take a moment to reflect on this.
Some 35 years ago, an enthusiastic project team of ECT employees, Sea-Land and Port of Rotterdam, together with suppliers, developed and realized within five years the world's first automated container terminal on the Maasvlakte; a unique achievement. On June 25, 1993, the terminal was opened by Queen Beatrix and with that ECT changed the face of container handling.
Earlier in June, this milestone of 30 years of automation was celebrated with many who helped to build the Delta/Sea-Land Terminal (DSL). Read more about this in an interview and article on our Fast Forward page on our website.
