Wednesday, April 9, the Zhen Hua 27 will arrive from Shanghai in the port of Rotterdam. The Zhen Hua 27 carries three new quay cranes for the ECT Delta terminal of Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT).
The cranes are remotely operated, have a lifting height of 54 meters under the spreader, and are topped at 142 meters high. The cranes have a reach of 25 containers wide, more than sufficient to handle the largest container ships of 24,000 TEU and more. With this acquisition, ECT further expands its facilities for these Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCSs).
The new quay cranes will be located on the south side of the ECT Delta terminal at the Amazonehaven. The investments in the cranes are part of a larger investment package for the ECT Delta terminal, including hybrid automated guided vehicles (AGVs), hybrid and electric Straddle Carriers, automatic stacking cranes (ASCs), and systems. With these investments, ECT is taking steps to further modernize and make the ECT Delta terminal more sustainable for the future. In the coming years, the terminal will increasingly switch to zero-emission equipment, and shore power facilities will be installed.
